Governors Portraits photograph collection PI/1989.0008

The Governors Portraits photograph collection is made up of forty-eight color transparencies of official portraits of Mississippi governors hanging at the Mississippi State Capitol. The transparencies were created by Mississippi historian and writer David G. Sansing for his book, The Governor’s Mansion: A Pictorial History, which was published in 1975 in cooperation with the Mississippi Department of Archives and History for the restoration of the Mississippi Governor's Mansion. Two of the paintings feature first ladies during their husbands' terms of office. The last photograph includes five former Governors standing on the lawn of the Governor's Mansion on June 8, 1976, during the opening ceremonies of the mansion's restoration.
