The series consists of general highway maps annotated to show the highways and roads that were constructed or maintained with federal aid highway moneys, as well as those analyzed by the Highways Performance Monitoring System (HPMS). The statewide maps show route sections and numbers for federal aid primary and federal aid secondary routes. The maps dated 1926-1927 (labeled "1921" in the PDF file names) form part of an atlas issued by the federal Department of Agriculture that shows federal aid routes in every state (although California is missing from this atlas). The Department of Archives and History has electronic (PDF) copies of maps dated between 1926 and 1995 scanned by MDOT.
