Choctaw District (Hinds County, Miss.) Field Notes Z/2177.000/S

This collection consists of two complete and two partial volumes of official copies of field notes of various deputy surveyors who worked under the direction of the surveyor general of United States lands south of Tennessee. Included are field notes originally made between 1821 and 1822. Some of the original land surveys were made during the tenure of surveyor general Levin Wailes of Adams County, Mississippi. At least three of the volumes were copied under the supervision of state commissioner of swamplands John M. Smylie between 1878 and 1879. The identity of the individual who copied the field notes is unknown. Images of the field notes were created by FamilySearch onsite at the Mississippi Department of Archives and History in 2011 and are arranged numerically by volume.
