"Biloxi Lighthouse. Constructed in 1848, 65 feet high with a revolving stairway and ladder through the center. During the War Between the States, the lens of the Lighthouse was removed and buried until after the war, when it was returned unharmed. When Lincoln was assassinated, the Lighthouse was painted black and was said to be the only public building in the South to be draped in mourning. Located on U. S. 90 Highway, Biloxi, Mississippi."
