"Natchez Trace Parkway, Emerald Mound...This ancient Indian ceremonial mound was built around the year 1500. One of the largest Indian earthworks in the United States, it covers an area of more than seven acres, and is 700 feet long and 400 feet wide. A smaller mound rises 35 feet above the main earthwork, which itself is 35 feet high. Located 14 miles northeast of Natchez, Mississippi. Administered by the National Park Service, U. S.
