"Candon Hearth, Vicksburg, Mississippi...Ante-bellum cottage of pioneer farmhouse architecture, located on actual Confederate defense lines. Built in early 1840's by Wm. Newman, who was killed by a cannon-ball shot through the house in 1863. The hole made by this ball, along with many other holes made by shells and Minieballs during the Siege of Vicksburg, can still be seen. Contains many Civil War relics.
