Health, Department of

The Mississippi Department of Health's Annual Report to the governor gives an overview of the agency’s operations and reportable performance data pursuant to its mission of promoting and protecting the health of all Mississippians. The Department of Archives and History has paper copies of annual reports dating from 1983 and electronic (PDF) copies from 2003. Prior to 1983 the Department of Health produced biennial reports; MDAH has paper copies from 1878/1879 to 1981/1982. The Department of Health also occasionally produces an abbreviated Executive Summary of their Annual Report, available in paper copies from 1997 to 2000 and in electronic (PDF) copies from 2001.

The series contains a photograph album of sixty-eight black and white 5 x 7 inch prints depicting general health activities throughout Mississippi. The prints are arranged by subject: State Tuberculosis Sanatorium, County Health Camp for Tuberculous Patients, Medical and Popular Health Education, Sanitation, Malaria, Child Health Conferences, Dental Hygiene, Maternity Center, Midwifery, Protection against Communicable Disease, Child Health Day Program, and Home Visits by Public Health Nurse. Most of the photographs are not dated but are believed to have been taken in the 1930s.
