Affidavits: James Scott, Parish of Feliciana, Louisiana, appearing before Justice of the Peace S. [Samuel] Combs, stating that he heard John McConnell say that he was going to get some slaves from Lewis H. Gardner; Sarah Broadway, Parish of Feliciana, Louisiana, appearing before Justice of the Peace S. [Samuel] Combs, stating that on September 14, 1814, Blakeley McConnell, another man by the name of McConnell, a man by the name of McGee, and two men by the name of Lowery passed by on the way to Lewis Gardner's plantation, stating that when they rode back by later that day they were accompanied by seven Negroes; Wm. Cabeen, Parish of Feliciana, Louisiana, appearing before Justice of the Peace S. [Samuel] Combs, stating that he saw a man named McConnell along with five other men accompanied by seven Negroes who belonged to Lewis Gardner; William Wisdom, Parish of Feliciana, Louisiana, appearing before Justice of the Peace S. [Samuel] Combs, stating that he saw five people at Mr. Broadway's house who were accompanied by seven Negroes belonging to Lewis Gardner; John Lawrence, Parish of Feliciana, Louisiana, appearing before Justice of the Peace S. [Samuel] Combs, stating that he saw six or seven people at Thomas Broadway's house who were accompanied by seven Negroes belonging to Lewis Gardner (see also September 23, 1814).
