Letter, John Sibley, Natchitoches, to Governor Claiborne, tells of messengers from the Caddo chief recounting how the Spanish troops entered his village, cut down the flag pole flying the United States flag and carried it away, told them they must have no dealings with the United States because the country belonged to Spain, demanded the surrender of three Americans who were in the Nation, said they were going to "kill, take, or drive back" the party of Americans who had gone up the Red River, and demanded a guide to the Ancient Caddo Village; tells of the three Americans who were in the Caddo village but withdrew at the approach of the Spanish and who confirmed the account of the Indians and who earlier had been interfered with in their trading with the Indians by the Spanish.
