Petition, James Wear (or Ware), Pascagoulas [sic], to Governor of West Florida, Vincent Folk [sic], asking if he may delay until his crop is in to swear his oath of allegiance so as not to cause distress to his family, asking to be confirmed in his title to the land he has settled upon; Governor Folch answers, on July 28, 1804, that Wear may remain in possession of the land until the claimant proves title and that he has two months before which he must swear his oath (reply in Spanish written at bottom of Wear's letter) - (Chancery Court Clerk certification dated 1912 on back of letter).
