[Henry] Nixon, Alabama Heights, to Governor Holmes, stating that he received Colonel Russell's orders to join him without delay, which he did; stating that they proceeded to the Cahaba [Cahawba] River where they planned to attack several Indian villages; reporting that they so badly misjudged the distance to the villages that they nearly ran out of provisions and arrived to find the villages deserted because the Indians had somehow discovered their movements; stating that the troops are eager for action and are requesting that he (Holmes) take personal command; recommending that Adjutant Bond be promoted to Major [faded].
