Copy of letter, Major General Thomas Pinckney, Fort Hawkins, to General [Ferdinand L.] Claiborne, stating that he (Pinckney) has been given by the President command of the expedition against the Creeks, reporting that he hopes to concentrate a force of more than 2000 men from the southern Atlantic states near the confluence of the Coosa and the Tennessee Rivers, stating that Colonel Russell is in command of the troops from the Mississippi Territory and has been instructed to get supplies up the Alabama River and to construct a fort (see letter, January 12, 1814), requesting that Claiborne help Russell in any way he can.
