Message: Governor Ronny Musgrove Office of the Governor PO Box 139 Jackson, MS 39205-0139 Dear Governor Ronny Musgrove, Today, Thursday August 8, USA Today lists the 14 states with an Amber Alert Plan which was credited in California with saving the lives of two abducted teenagers. Can you sign an executive order to provide a safety net for Mississippi children After alerts went out on radio and TV stations throughout the region, several drivers called police when they spotted the kidnapper's vehicle. Thanks to these tips, law enforcement officers stopped the kidnapper just minutes before he was about to disappear into the desert with the girls. Police shot and killed the suspect, who was wanted on another rape charge, and both teens were reunited safely with their families. While many states have Amber Alert Plans in place, our state doesn't. I'm asking you to immediately implement one before another child goes missing. This can begin saving lives immediately. Existing statewide Amber Alert Plans work by using Emergency Alert System (EAS) broadcasts to radio and TV stations to get critical suspect and vehicle information directly into the hands of the public almost immediately. Across the country, Amber Alert Plans are credited with helping safely recover 19 children. Please, work with the Polly Klaas Foundation to draft an Executive Order to get our state to implement an Amber Alert Plan immediately! Together, we can keep our children a little further out of harm's way, and ensure that we see fewer child kidnapping tragedies in our community. Please let me know what you intend to do.
