Issue: STATE FLAG

Street_Address: 303 JANE DRIVE

City: LUCEDALE

State: MS

Message: Dear Governor,

My husband and I just read several articles in two newspapers concerning your view on the state flag.

Pardon my rudeness, but I don't believe you have any idea of the opinions of the people of our state. We don't feel the state flag is a symbol of racism or slavery. It is a symbol we have grown up with and is a part of our heritage as Mississippians. W e don't have a lot to be proud of in this state but our history and heritage is something we have to hold on to.

I am an educated federal government employee and not some backwoods, racist, white cracker. I still believe this effort to change our flag is an effort to prove that Mississippi and its residents have been in the wrong for all of these years.

Please take a look at the website for USDA, Farm Service Agency in Mississippi and you will see our state flag proudly displayed.

I am afraid that this is just a hint of how far away you are from the people of Mississippi.

Sincerely,

Karen B. Cooper
