It was submitted by annette huddleston (achuddleston@yahoo.com) on Tuesday, July 16, 2002 at 09:28:34 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Issue: safety and well being of county prisoners Street_Address: 11 cr 1125 City: booneville State: MS Zip_Code: 38829 Message: I, as a parent of an inmate in the county jail system, am concerned for the health and welfare of my son, who is the Prentiss Co. Justice Center. He has been in there for approximately 2 weeks and of that time he has not had any hyigenal supplies whatsoever. I talked to the Prentiss Co. Sheriff on 7/15/02 and he said that he would check into this matter. My son also inform me that the amount of food that is supplied to the prisoners is not fitting for a person to eat and the amount is not enough for a child either. There is other prisoners who are like my son that are being mistreated and I know that they all have done wrong, but they are still people just like you and I and should be treated at least half-way decent. I am not asking for any special treatment only that they be treated somewhat better. The people who run the jail are so cruel and unjust to the prisoners while I have been on the phone talking to my son that it make the hair stand up on my head to! k! now that there is nothing that I can do because I am not inside the jail to see and know what is being done to each one. I do know that they, the prisoners, should have some rights, too. I would appreciate any and all the help that you or your office might be able to give me and the other parents of the inmates at the Prentiss Co. Justice Center. in Booneville, MS 38829.
