Dear President Bush,
I'm writing to let you know I, and many others, support the idea of contraception being covered by health plans. I find it discriminatory and foolish that many health plans do not currently cover contraceptives.
Women deserve equal coverage. Some plans cover Viagara, but not contraceptives? That's ridiculous. Contraception is a woman's health issue and it should be covered in health plans.
This is a physical and medical condition that, if desired, can be prevented. The same concept applies to diseases and other health problems. If other preventative measures are included in a health plan, contraceptive coverage should be, too.
I would think employers and health care companies would see advantages to providing birth control coverage. An unwanted pregnancy and a child would be much more expensive than simply providing contraceptives so the woman does not get pregnant.
I hope the recent federal court ruling will spur all employers and health care companies to provide contraceptive coverage.
To be honest, this makes me furious. And, just so you know, this issue is very important to me. I think my opinion has a good chance to make a difference, and there's a fairly good chance I'll talk to other people about this.
I think your leadership on this issue could be very helpful, so please listen carefully to what I have to say.
