Subject: Please take a stand for the people of Mississippi
Message:

Dear Governor Musgrove:

On Tuesday, June 5, 2001, Mayor Francis G. Slay of St. Louis, Missouri,
ordered the removal of the Mississippi state flag from the St. Louis City
Hall display. An article referring to his actions can be found on the Web
site of NBC St. Louis affiliate, KSDK Channel 5. Their Web site is
http://www.ksdk.com.

As a proud Mississippian, I am very offended by his actions. On the day this
mayor took office, April 17, as you know, the majority of Mississippians
voted to keep our 1894 flag. Regardless of the appearance of our state flag,
it is still our state flag! To single out and remove our flag (NOTE:
Georgia's flag was also removed.) is absolute discrimination.

As the highest elected official in our state, you should represent our state
in matters such as these. I believe you should take a FIRM stand and let the
mayor of St. Louis know that Mississippi does NOT appreciate being
discriminated against.

I have a mailing list of approximately 100 friends and family members. By
the end of the day, they will all receive notice of the mayor's actions. I
will strongly encourage them to contact you and ask that you stand up for the
good people of Mississippi and make a statement to Mayor Slay. We want him
to put our beautiful flag back on display!

Sincerely,
Becky Sherman
Laurel, Mississippi
