I am writing you today to ask your DEFINITION of industrial hemp and for your opinion concerning REGULATED industrial hemp farming in the United States of America. I also want to know if you believe that hemp foods, hemp seeds and hemp oil that contain minuscule trace non-significant THC presents a health threat to American citizens? Non-psychoactive industrial hemp cultivation produce products ranging from paper to car parts to ice cream. What is the EXACT reason the federal government does not permit U.S farmers to benefit by growing this agricultural crop under the USDA and continues to allow the DEA to call the shots? Today, in the modern world, 32 countries allow their farmers to grow, process and sell hemp just like corn, wheat or soybeans. But after 70 years of constant government propaganda, America remains the only country in the world that still prohibits hemp production. How can America, the country founded on the ideal of personal freedoms, the "land of the free" and "home of the brave" find itself banning a natural plant in the name of a "drug war"? Are non-psychoactive hemp products the casualty of this multi-billion dollar drug war? If more than 30 countries including China, England and Australia allow their farmers to grow non-psychoactive low THC industrial hemp as a cash crop, and these countries do not have any problem telling the difference between industrial hemp and marijuana, then what is the debate all about in the United States of America? DEA recently issued new rules that attempt to ban hemp seed and oil based foods. Hemp foods are a healthy and tasty nutritional resource for Americans and the DEAs new rules will cause substantial harm to hemp businesses and consumers alike. These rules are blatant violations of the original Congressional intent that exempted hemp seed and oil from DEA's control: the minuscule trace non-significant THC in hemp seed and oil presents absolutely no potential for abuse. Poppy seed bagels are legal even though they contain trace amounts of opiates, yet DEA has not tried to remove them from your local bakery. DEA is now requesting comments on the proposed and interim rules. I urge you to work with the DEA and your colleagues to explain once and for all the distinction between industrial hemp and marijuana and REGULATE the cannabis plant. Obviously making a plant and all its' derivatives ILLEGAL has not accomplished much in the past 70 years except create mass confusion and waste a lot of money that could be going towards clearly defined agendas. I will be awaiting your definitions so I can share them with my local PTA and school officials and the rest of my community members. Thank you very much for helping us out regarding this greatly misunderstood product. Sincerely, Mary Bruce 2730 33rd Street Coos Bay, Oregon 97420 Sincerely, Mary Bruce Submit: Submit --------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Attachment Filename: C:\archives\governor\mail\Governor Musgrove\_attach\Comments to the Governor 348\Mime.822
