Re President Clinton, Accords, Waco, Trade, Helicopters, Prescription
Drugs,
Russia, Oil, and Campaigns
Thank you, President Clinton. You lifted this country from economic
recession, and used tax money wisely. You protected America against
destructive tax cuts and some potentially horrible legislation. There is
less of the debt and deficit spending you inherited, and there are two back
to back budget surpluses for the only time in the history of the United
States. As a further result of able management, there is now more effective
education, less crime, less welfare, more protection for seniors, more
national parkland saved, greater environmental protection, and more peace and
trade with other countries.
However, there is yet more to do. You are still protecting America against
possible destructive tax cuts or potentially horrible legislation, and
promoting the best interests of this country, here and abroad. Americans
appreciate your accomplishments. You changed America for the better forever.
In addition, Secretary of State Madeline Albright is also a skilled
negotiator for peace. For example, it seems the Jewish people have recently
made multiple concessions concerning Jerusalem, although they are concerned
for their capital city with its long and difficult history. King David built
the city of Jerusalem, King Solomon built the first temple, and the Jews
rebuilt it 70 years later, many years before the birth of Christ. The Arab
community came to the area more recently. Some of them desecrated synagogues
and cemeteries, using the headstones to pave the streets. Jews are concerned
the Arab community might not be dedicated caretakers of this valued ancient
history.
By the way, the Jewish people did not suddenly attack the Arab community.
The Arabs attacked the Jews in the six-day war, and the Jews fought back. In
the process, they captured lands, some of which they kept to protect
themselves against further surprise attacks. They returned much of these
lands to try to establish peace. Also, Americans appreciate the efforts of
President Clinton and Secretary Albright whose assistance might help the
Jewish and Arab communities to reach accord. In addition, Secretary Albright
is beginning talks to try to help reconcile the Chinese people, those in
China with those in Taiwan.
Thank you also to Congress for grappling with tough issues. The House,
following the Senate, voted to expand radiation exposure law. This will
benefit those who were injured or the families of those who died in the
country's nuclear defense program.
Incidentally, that is different from Waco. There is taped evidence that the
Branch Davidians poured gasoline on their church, and set their dwellings
and, therefore, themselves afire. Americans should close the investigation,
and not waste further attention, time or money on this tragedy.
Next, the House voted to lift a trade ban against Cuba. America trades with
other communist countries. It does not seem to make sense that other
non-communist countries trade with Cuba while current U.S. policy freezes
American farmers out of the market. Therefore, the Senate helps America when
it reconsiders its position to follow the lead of the House, especially
considering that capitalism generally replaces communism when trade increases.
In addition, Congress is now trying to decide between funding for Huey or for
Blackhawk helicopters to fight against drugs from Columbia coming into the
U.S. Please reconsider these two types of helicopters. The Blackhawk goes one
and one-half times faster. It carries more than twice the number of people
at sea level or in the air. It flies 4,000 feet higher (think of the Andes
Mountains), can stay in the air almost twice as long, and has a one-third
greater range of distance, all of which makes it safer for U.S. personnel.
When the Marxist rebels shot at two helicopters in Columbia, the Huey went
down and the Blackhawk made it back safely. It seems easy to see why the
President and the military prefer it.
Additionally, there are two other important points to consider. The
Blackhawk goes further, therefore, it needs less refueling stations, which
makes it less costly than the Huey. Furthermore, although the Huey appears to
be less costly than the Blackhawk, $188 million vs. $388 million for 60
helicopters, respectively, the Blackhawk is less expensive because it carries
over double the people. The Senate might reconsider and re-introduce the
issue, and then vote for the Blackhawk.
Also, it will cost the American people too much money for prescription drug
coverage if the pharmaceutical companies set the prices rather than
government agencies. The House must reintroduce a new amendment to that
effect.
In fact, Americans must remain careful to guard against all unnecessary
expenditures, and are familiar with subterfuge. For example, when President
Carter was running for re-election, gas prices suddenly rose, there were huge
lines in the gas stations, Americans blamed him, and he lost the election.
Then, the fact that George W. Bush is a former oilman with ties to that
industry running against someone in the Clinton-Gore administration may not
be too helpful in the recent outrageous rise in the price of gas. However,
best wishes to Vice President Gore for his innovative approach to those
excessive gas prices, especially in the Midwest. What an amazing coincidence
that when
he began his investigation of the oil companies, those prices went down.
Also, those who try to accuse the Clinton-Gore administration of inaction are
both dangerous and inaccurate. Senator Trent Lott, R-MS, and Representative
Bob Barr, R-GA, are recent speakers to white supremacists and do not belong
in the government of this great country. These people present a horrible
danger to the U.S. Furthermore, the military refused to fund Lott's
excessive requests for personal development in his state. In addition, he
said that the government failed to pressure OPEC countries to produce more
oil. In fact, Americans may do more than suspect collusion, because if OPEC
raises its prices, that may help executives of Exxon and Texaco rather than
hinder them. As a matter of fact, G.W. Bush has said he would "work with my
friends in OPEC."
That may be in addition to the artificial surge in gas prices in the Midwest.
What hurt Americans, also, was that Congress ignored President Clinton's
suggestions for improving oil supplies. It remains uncertain just how helpful
G.W. Bush's ties to OPEC would be to U.S. citizens. Somehow, it seems as if
they might help Texaco and Exxon executives, along with G.W. Bush, more than
the average working person of this country left to pay those gas price
increases. It seems difficult to understand that if G.W. Bush were so
helpful, why gas prices soared at what appears to be to his convenience, not
that of the American working people. Thankfully, Vice President Gore has
effectively challenged the oil industry and is proposing many reasonable ways
to help other Americans.
Next, Americans are aware that the President, the Vice President and Congress
successfully pressured the Russian government for a change in Russian policy.
Russians plan to end the war in Chechnya. Therefore, will the members of this
government please exert whatever pressures they can to help the members of
the Russian media and the Jewish people in Russia. It hurts everyone when
Putin attacks and imprisons the media on trumped up charges (Mr. Gusinsky),
and attacks the rabbinical population as well. Mr. Gusinsky is also Jewish.
Please monitor these attacks closely. There is a history of anti-semitism in
Russia. The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra just performed Baba Yar by Dmitri
Shostakovich, with the poet Yevgeny Yevtushenko reciting the famous poem
which inspired that composer, about the horrific slaughter of hundreds of
thousands of Jews there in Russia.
Furthermore, it may help American citizens to realize how fortunate all of
the people in this country are when comparing the problems facing citizens in
other countries. They, too, fight racial, ethnic and religious hatred, yet
their citizens may not have the privilege of writing to their governments
about these problems and getting any positive results.
Nevertheless, America is facing similar problems. Every week there is a
lynching or some other hate crime. Americans dare not sleep. Americans must
continue to be vigilant and to fund those individuals and organizations that
help keep America safe from hatred: the NAACP, the Southern Poverty Law
Center, the Simon Weisenthal Center, the ADL, and the Clinton Legal Expense
Trust.
Next, Congress is about to recess. When the members are travelling the
country, disregard any misleading phrases and finger pointings. Ask them,
rather, what they have done about gun control and education, if they ever
plan to do anything, and when they plan to do that. America needs people that
make a difference for the better, like Vice President Gore, not people who
accept over $197,000 in gun lobby money then make false accusations against
the Vice President, as Senator Fred Thompson, R-TN, recently did. In fact,
thank you especially to President Clinton for funding needed repairs to
school buildings.
Finally, there is a very special recent picture of the President, showing
that America can be debt free by 20l2. President Clinton has pointed America
in a new direction. Thank you, President Clinton, and Happy Birthday,
America.
