It was submitted by Walter Moores (wmoores@watervalley.net) on Wednesday, May 23, 2001 at 10:20:42 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Issue: Mississippi Quarter Coin Street_Address: 1860 County Road 170 City: Oakland State: MS Zip_Code: 38948 Phone: 662-623-0057 Message: Friday, May 18, the governor was on Supertalk MS with Paul Gallo. A caller from the numismatic association called and asked the governor why that society was not consulted for input for the MS quarter coin design. The governor stated that the guidelines from the mint did not allow that. That is misinformation. I would like for the governor or somebody in his office to go to www.statequarters.com and download the article about the design contest in Texas. The governor either lied in his response or was uninformed. The people have been denied a voice in designing a new flag and now we have been denied participation in our selection of a quarter design. To me, this is very unfair. The outcome of the flag election might have been different if it had been handled like the design of the car tags several years ago. Offer several options (car tags, flags, quarters) and let those who care to participate by clipping the ballot out of their newspaper and mailing it back to a state office. Mississippi is becoming a 'closed society' again, partly because of the governor. I voted for the governor and many of the current legislators during the last state election. With the recent events outlined above, I no longer plan to vote for incumbents in the governor's mansion or statehouse.
