Issue: The so called "tort reform" banking bill

Street_Address: 2111 Sunset Drive

City: Hattiesburg

State: MS

Zip_Code: 39402-2843

Phone: 601-261-5565

Message: I believe House Bill 1646 is a complete fraud on the taxpayers of the State of Mississippi. It literally gives banks and lenders the opportunity to defraud the taxpayers of Mississippi with TOTAL IMPUNITY. I believe in tort reform in some areas, but to let lenders engage in "false, misleading, deceptive or fraudulent means" is nothing more than giving lending institutions the right to steal from the poor uneducated people of this great State. If the Govenor, does not VETO the bill, I will do everything within my power and the power of my checkbook to insure that Ronnie Musgrove will never be elected to ANY public office again.

I do not speak from ignorance, either. Although I am now an attorney with the federal government, I am the former assistant general counsel and trust officer of a large bank within the state, which was eventually bought out by another bank. I know what banks will be able to do with this bill, and they will take advantage of it to the fullest. This bill is the worst law I have ever seen in the history of Mississippi. Although my political activity is necessarily limited, my CONTRIBUTIONS are not. I will vote not only at the ballot box, but also with my checkbook, to see that anyone who represents this area that supported the bill in any form or fashion will be soundly defeated in the next election. That includes the govenor. It is beyond comprehension the governor could ever even consider endorsing such an atrocious law. If he does, I can only imagine that his support was bought and paid for by special interests.

My reading of the bill is that it will do nothing but rob the people of Mississippi blind. If the govenor does not VETO the bill, I will work as hard as the law allows me to see that he is defeated in the next election. That he is considering signing the bill makes me sorry I ever supported him in the first place.
