Issue: Tort Reform

City: Woodville

State: MS

Message: Dear Governor Musgrove,

I am writing in reguards to the medical crisis of tort reform in the great state of Mississippi. I am alarmed at the lack of support given to the state's medical service providers by their own elected officials. I am even more concerned with the fact that without such support the state may be left with even less adequate health care. Governor Musgrove, your either inability or unwillingness to take immediate action on this issue is reason for concern. I would like to, someday, attend the University of Mississippi and become a doctor. It is my greatest ambition to remain in this state. However, I will not practice in a state where the healthcare system has been utterly destroyed by its own laws. Governor, I understand your reasoning for not adding the issue to this legislative special session, but what I cannot understand is why you have not started campaigning for some type of reform. I think I recall reading somewhere that you said that state officials were not!

ure tort reform was the best way to go. If it is not the answer, I believe, you should reassure the state that you are going to find the solution soon. Governor, it seems to many in the state that you are playing politics and that you don't really care about the people and the state of Mississippi. I certainly hope this is not the case. Mississippi is already underprovided for, medically, with little incentives for doctors to move here. This current issue makes it so, not only no new healthcare providers will move to Mississippi, but that current healthcare providers will be forced to leave. I live in Wilkinson County. We are cared for by a very small hospital and three rural health clinics. The issue of insurance will cause all of these to close, at least temporarily, with the next closest madical facility being no less than thirty minutes away. In addition to my personal health care being disrupted, my mother, who is a nurse practicioner, will lose her job. I wi!

be attending the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science next year and if we have to move out of state for her to find employment I will be unable to to fulfill this opportunity. I hope, Governor Musgrove, that you find the answer and the power needed to resolve this issue, and pray that you do it quickly.
                        Sincerely,
                        Woods Curry
