It was submitted by Dorothy Switzer (Amsteph2@aol.com) on Sunday, December 23, 2001 at 15:53:12 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Issue: Truth in Sentencing Law Street_Address: 8158 - 529 Road City: Biloxi State: MS Zip_Code: 39532 Message: Dear Sir: Between July 1, 1995 and January 1, 2000, nonviolent inmates are not eligible for parole because they fall under the Truth in Sentencing Law (85%) Under the 85% Law there is a four(4) year six(6) months "Block-In" for nonviolent offenders between July 1, 1995 and January 1, 2000. This excessive length of stay creates violent agitation and great confusion for the inmate ultimately costing the taxpayers more money for this harsh parole "Block-In". Hopefully the Legislature will do something about this Block-In and give the taxpayers some relief.
