It was submitted by Mary Warren Millerr (mimimiller@natchez.org) on Tuesday, July 16, 2002 at 08:47:15 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Issue: capital punishment Street_Address: 206 Washington Street City: Natchez State: MS Zip_Code: 39120 Phone: 601 442-9786 Message: I am opposed to capital punishment, and my conscience compels me to voice my objection. I consider it barbaric. It is cruel and inhumane punishment for the criminal; for the criminal's family members (who may be innnocent of any wrong doing); for those like me who are opposed to capital punishment; and for those state employees who carry out the sentences. I also do not think that an eye for an eye brings peace to the crime victim's family members. Our justice system should be focused on protection and rehabilitation--not retribution. I would rather my tax money be spent on life imprisonment. God, if there is a God, loves the condemned as much as he loves any of us. We do not have the moral or religous right take another's life.
