Vicksburg National Military Park Photographs Series 0573
The collection contains 328 items, primarily photographs taken in Vicksburg National Military Park from its inception in 1899 until 1923. The materials, collected and maintained by park commissioner William T. Rigby, document the design and construction of the park and its many monuments to the Confederate and Union units and soldiers who fought there. Included are images of battlefield terrain, sites, roads, bridges, buildings, monuments, memorials, forts, batteries, dedication ceremonies, park commissioners and officials, visiting dignitaries, and veterans attending reunions.

Image Arrangement and Numbering
The Vicksburg National Military Park Photographs were numbered and scanned in their original order.
Technical Details
Digital Photographs: The original scans of the Vicksburg National Military Park Photographs were made by the Image & Sound Section staff in 2010, according to the Mississippi Department of Archives and History Board of Trustees’ approved imaging procedures, following ANSI/AIIM recommended practice. The images were scanned as uncompressed, 24-bit RGB TIFF files at 600 pixels per inch.
Conversion: For Web display, the original scans of the Vicksburg National Military Park Photographs were converted to Zoomify JPEG images in August 2010.
Rights Management
There are no known restrictions on use of images within the Vicksburg National Military Park Photographs. MDAH asks that each image used in a presentation, display, or publication be accompanied by the following credit statement:
