Afro-Americans of Natchez PI/1996.0003

The Afro-Americans of Natchez photograph collection is made up of twelve black-and-white cabinet cards featuring images of prominent citizens of Natchez, Mississippi, created during the nineteenth century. The collection includes five photographs taken by Henry C. Norman and two by L. D. Simmons, each of whom owned a portrait studio in Natchez. Another cabinet card in the collection was created by Yazoo City photographer H. W. Bushman in 1888.

Technical Details

Original Scans: The original scans of the Afro-Americans of Natchez photograph collection were made in 2009, according to the Mississippi Department of Archives and History Board of Trustees' approved imaging procedures, following ANSI/AIIM recommended practice. The images were scanned as uncompressed, 8-bit RGB Color TIFF files at 600 pixels per inch.

Conversion: For Web display, the original scans of the Afro-Americans of Natchez photograph collection were saved as JPEG tile sets.

The postcards in the Afro-Americans of Natchez photograph collection are in the public domain and therefore free of copyright or other use restrictions. MDAH asks that each image used in a presentation, display, or publication be accompanied by the following credit statement:
