The Brady (Mathew) Portraits collection is made up of eleven photographs of distinguished Mississippians during the mid-nineteenth century, including Jefferson Davis. Mathew Brady (c. 1823-1896) was an American photographer best known for his documentation of the Civil War. These images are copies of imperial India ink prints, which are salt prints, that were attributed to Mathew Brady, with the exception of the portrait of Mrs. Daniel R. Wright. The creator of that print is unknown.

Technical Details
Original Scans: The original scans of the Brady (Mathew) Portraits collection were made in 2011, according to the Mississippi Department of Archives and History Board of Trustees' approved imaging procedures, following ANSI/AIIM recommended practice. The images were scanned as uncompressed, 8-bit Grayscale TIFF files at 600 pixels per inch.
Conversion: For Web display, the original scans of the Brady (Mathew) Portraits collection were saved as JPEG tile sets.

The postcards in the Brady (Mathew) Portraits collection are in the public domain and therefore free of copyright or other use restrictions. MDAH asks that each image used in a presentation, display, or publication be accompanied by the following credit statement:
