"Brandon Hall, at Natchez, Adams County was built by Gerard Brandon, III, in 1856 adjoining Selma Plantation. It is now (1937) the property McGehee Stokes. It holds especial interest from the fact that the inauguration of construction that will eventually see paved, the famous Natchez Trace its' length through this state. This affair was attended by notables from the Mexican Government, the United States Federal Government and representaties of the states that it will traverse, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee and Louisiana."
