Ku Klux Klan Collection, 1964 Z/2432

The Ku Klux Klan Collection, 1964, was transferred to the Mississippi Department of Archives and History by the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (DPS) in 2026. A small blue case held a Klan robe and hood, a charter from Salem, Mississippi; organizational documents; a single-entry ledger listing names and dates scattered between April 1964 and January 1965; a yellow, spiral-bound notebook with meeting notes from April 9, 1964, to September 10, 1964; a Blue Horse composition notebook containing nominations and votes, names abstained, and other unidentified notes; an empty Tylertown Bank deposit book; blank membership applications; and other ephemera concerning Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, The White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan of Mississippi, and the United Klans of America, Inc. Also included were forms and receipts from the Mississippi Constitutional Council. All non-blank pages were scanned and can be accessed here. The original documents can be viewed in the William F. Winter Archives and History Building. The blue case, robe, and hood are in the care of the Two Mississippi Museums. DPS Freedom Rider Files, 1960-1966 (Series 2985) are also available for research.

Image Arrangement and Numbering

The items were arranged into series and numbered by the curator at the bottom of each page.

Technical Details

Original Scans: The documents in the Ku Klux Klan Collection were scanned by MDAH staff in 2026 , according to the Mississippi Department of Archives and History Board of Trustees' approved imaging procedures, following ANSI/AIIM recommended practice. The images were saved as uncompressed, 24-bit RGB TIFF files at 300 pixels per inch. Empty pages were not scanned.

Conversion: TIFF files were bundled into PDF files for Internet access in 2026.

The electronic files in Ku Klux Klan Collection are intended for public use in research, teaching, and private study in accordance with the provisions of the Fair Use clause of the United States Copyright Law (Title 17, U.S.C.) and the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.
