Pritchartt, Howard Jr., Lantern Slides PI/2004.0011
The Pritchartt, Howard Jr., Lantern Slides collection consists of seventy-four black-and-white and one-hundred-twenty-nine color lantern slides used during the 1930s to promote the Natchez Pilgrimage. They were donated to MDAH by Mr. Pritchartt in 2004. Scenes are mainly of the Natchez, Mississippi, area and include interior and exterior views of homes, churches, and public buildings. Some of the slides also feature reenactors in costume.

Image Arrangement and Numbering
The photographic curator numbered the lantern slides in the order they were received.
Technical Details
Original Scans: Most of the lantern slides were scanned in 2005 as uncompressed, 24-bit RGB TIFFs at 300 pixels per inch. One black-and-white slide (item 131) was scanned as an 8-bit Grayscale, 300 ppi TIFF.
Conversion: For Web display, the original scans were converted to Zoomify JPEG tile sets in 2023.

There are no known restrictions on use of images within the Pritchartt, Howard Jr., Lantern Slides collection. MDAH asks that each image used in a presentation, display, or publication be accompanied by the following credit statement:

Publicity and Privacy Rights
MDAH alerts the user to the issue of publicity and privacy rights of subjects represented in these scans. Distinct from copyright, which concerns the owner of the intellectual content, publicity and/or privacy rights apply to individuals who did not sign a contract or release form giving the creator the legal right to use his/her likeness or personal information. Publicity and privacy rights also differ from copyright in that there are not exemptions for Fair Use or educational purposes. These rights are not regulated by federal law but by state statute and common law. When using images from this collection it is the patron's responsibility to determine whether privacy and publicity rights issues may exist and consider the mitigating factors.
