Reverend William Phineas Browne Notebook and Letter Z/0142.000/S

The notebook kept by the Reverend William Phineas Browne, Sr., of Pascagoula, Jackson County, Mississippi, includes an autobiographical sketch of Browne and his family, newspaper clippings, and notes about Bishop Green Training School.  A letter from W. P. Browne to a Mr. Tucker, dated December 29, 1921, accompanies the notebook.

Digitization of this collection was made possible by a grant through Lilly Endowment’s Religion and Cultural Institutions Initiative. 


Image Arrangement and Numbering

The pages of the notebook were numbered by the curator in brackets at the bottom of each page. The front and back covers of the notebook and pages of the notebook and letter were scanned consecutively. Blank pages were not imaged.

Technical Details

Original Scans: The Reverend William Phineas Browne Notebook and Letter were scanned by Lilly Endowment grant-funded staff under the supervision of MDAH staff in 2024-2025, according to the Mississippi Department of Archives and History Board of Trustees' approved imaging procedures, following ANSI/AIIM recommended practice. The notebook and letter were saved as uncompressed, 24-bit RGB TIFF files at 300 pixels per inch.

Conversion: TIFF files were converted to JPEG tile sets for Internet access in 2025.
