This collection consists of a ministerial license, correspondence, fragments of correspondence and accompanying transcripts documenting the life of Allen Hargrove. There is a transcript of a letter from W. T. Gray to John Hargrove, Allen Hargrove's brother. The letter discusses events after Gray and Hargrove were captured and sent to Camp Douglas, Chicago, after the battle of Atlanta (July 22, 1864). Also included is a letter to Mary Hargrove from her aunt Carrie Hancock.

The items were numbered by the curator in brackets at the bottom of each page.
Technical Details
Original Scans: The Allen Hargrove Papers, were scanned by Lilly Endowment grant-funded staff under the supervision of MDAH staff in 2024-2025, according to the Mississippi Department of Archives and History Board of Trustees' approved imaging procedures, following ANSI/AIIM recommended practice. The papers were saved as uncompressed, 24-bit RGB TIFF files at 300 pixels per inch.
Conversion: TIFF files were converted to JPEG tile sets for Internet access in 2025.
