Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church (Rankin County, Miss.) Records Z/2047

The minute book of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, Rankin County, Mississippi, documents the activities of the church from 1831 to 1851. Typically, the church would meet monthly and members would go into conference at the conclusion of the sermon. The topics of these conferences consists of budgets, sermons, renovations to the church building, and leadership roles. Also mentioned are member deaths, dismissals by letter, and excommunications. Of note are the enslaved persons mentioned by name as being received into church.

Technical Details

Original Scans: The Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church (Rankin County, Miss.) Records minute book, was scanned by Lilly Endowment grant-funded staff under the supervision of MDAH staff in 2024-2025, according to the Mississippi Department of Archives and History Board of Trustees' approved imaging procedures, following ANSI/AIIM recommended practice. The minute book was saved as uncompressed, 24-bit RGB TIFF files at 300 pixels per inch. 

Conversion: TIFF files were converted to JPEG tile sets for Internet access in 2025.
