Noble and Margaret Crigler Albums Z/2391.000/S

Noble T. Crigler was introduced to Margaret Ann Whitehead by her brother, Lee Edward, in December 1957 in Caraway, Arkansas. The young couple soon fell in love and were married on December 23, 1959. The Criglers were personal and professional partners for over sixty years, operating successful businesses in the southeastern United States, such as American Development Corporation; United Structures, Inc.; Moon Lake Building Supply; D. P. Property Managers; M. L. Management; and Friar Tuck's Fried Chicken. They built and owned homes in Moon Lake, Mississippi, and Viola, Arkansas, and traveled the world together. Along the way, they befriended many famous people, including Mississippians Thad Cochran, Mike and Portia Espy, John Grisham, and Aaron Henry, among others.

After receiving a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer in June 2021, Margaret Ann Crigler succumbed to the disease at the age of seventy-nine on November 10, 2021. To honor his wife, Noble Crigler filled five albums, titled The Pictorial Life of Margaret Ann Crigler, with photographs and memories arranged chronologically from 1942 to 2021.

Image Arrangement and Numbering

The pages of each of the five Noble and Margaret Crigler Albums were numbered by the curator. The front covers and all pages were scanned consecutively, front to back. The 506 image files were numbered in the order they were scanned within each volume.

Technical Details

Digital Images: The original scans of the Noble and Margaret Crigler Albums were made by MDAH Image & Sound Section staff in 2023, using Mississippi Department of Archives and History Board of Trustees' approved imaging procedures, following ANSI/AIIM recommended practice. A BookEye scanner captured images of the albums as 400 ppi, 24-bit, RGB TIFF files.

Image Conversion: To improve accessibility, MDAH Electronic Archives staff converted the original TIFF files to zoomable JPEG tile sets.
